It is always possible to get a cheaper set of drawings, like a cheap builder, but……do you really want someone who hasn’t been trained or may cut corners in charge of such a large investment (financially and emotionally) as your home? Architects are problem-solvers by nature, its what they do. The construction process can be a minefield so if you work with someone who understands it – top to toe – you’ve got a better chance of it all going smoothly.
A graphic-designer friend at The Big Picture, Oxford told me once that a client came to him saying ‘Can you design me a new logo?’ When he heard the price, his response was, ‘My son could knock one up on Word in half an hour!!!’ Yes… he COULD… but would you trust your company’s branding (and possibly your financial future) to a nine year old (gifted and talented as they may be)? Using the right teams in the right places really helps…
