Rear Extension | Central Oxford

The clients had a small courtyard garden, which caught the afternoon sun, and which they wanted to integrate with the kitchen/dining space.

They wanted to realise the courtyard’s potential in opening it up to the kitchen, and using similar materials and levels internally and externally, creating an “inside-outside” space which could allow the different dining, kitchen and courtyard uses to function as one, especially in the summer.

The scheme uses the pitch of the existing roof but extends the bathroom at first floor and integrates the bathroom and kitchen extension scheme into a whole, designed unit.

An amended scheme was constructed in 2008.
